Wellness Center to Begin Research Projects
It has been a long term goal for me to some day do research on the benefits and effectiveness of noninvasive, nontoxic therapies that I have used in my medical practice over the past 30 years. NOW IS THE TIME! I have been fortunate to meet the right people to help me begin this important task. My goal is to provide evidence to the medical community and insurance companies that these therapies work, have fewer side effects and complications, AND they are less expensive.
We have already started documenting case histories of successful treatment for a wide variety of health conditions including degenerative disc disease, peripheral vascular disease, liver and gallbladder disease, and autoimmune diseases to name a few. In addition we have chosen two general health conditions as subjects of research in the next year - Type 2 Diabetes and Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding. I would like to inform you of our plans to study these two problems in case you or someone you know is interested in participating.
First I will discuss dysfunctional uterine bleeding and why I feel this is a pertinent subject of research. When I began studying Chinese medicine, I found another philosophy and approach for treating female problems that was in many cases more effective than western medicine. Western medicine basically uses hormones and surgery for the treatment of female problems. Sometimes these are effective for treating the symptoms, but the root of the problem is not addressed. For example, young women are put on birth control pills for painful or irregular periods but there is no attempt to understand what is out of balance and what can be done to restore normal hormonal balance. Western medicine may treat endometriosis with surgery but it is a fact it will come back. Hormones again can be used but it doesn’t answer the question—what is really wrong?
As women age and approach menopause, it is common for women to experience heavy bleeding, irregular periods, and hormonal imbalance. If uncontrolled these symptoms can often lead to the surgical removal of female organs. Through my studies in Chinese medicine I have learned that most women do not require hysterectomies. There are many different reasons for women to have abnormal bleeding but most of these problems can be treated with acupuncture and herbal medicine. In my experience most women would rather not have their internal organs removed. I understand that there are cases where it is necessary to do surgery but I will supply proof that the majority of problems can be treated without surgery. I feel strongly that western medicine needs to incorporate treatment options used in Chinese medicine because it is in the best interest of women to keep their reproductive organs intact.
At this point we have no grants to provide patient care, therefore we will be treating patients at a discounted rate who are experiencing this particular problem. Treatment will be very individualized since every case is different. Case histories on patients will be documented for publication and data accumulated for review. Subsequently we will approach a variety of funding sources for grants to formally study this health concern. If you or someone you know suffers from this condition, please call us for more information.
The second health condition I have chosen for research - type 2 diabetes - is an epidemic health problem. Our approach to treating this health condition will be multi-disciplinary, combining both individual therapy and group education. We would like to have a group of 15-20 patients. Our goal is to normalize blood sugars and reduce co-morbidities such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia ideally without using prescription drugs. Treatment will include traditional Chinese herbal medicine that will be individually prescribed to help heal the internal organs affected by diabetes. Drugs used in western medicine do not improve the function of internal organs. In fact they can have numerous and sometimes dangerous side effects. Because lifestyle change is an integral part of treating diabetes our program will include a 6-8 week course on diet, exercise, and meditation. Exercise will be geared to strengthen not only core muscles but also help stimulate abdominal organs and the glandular system. Meditations will be taught that specifically address issues such as stress, overeating and self-esteem. This comprehensive approach to treating diabetes has a unique and innovative combination of treatment that we feel will be far more successful than the traditional approach. If you or someone you love is suffering from diabetes and it’s complications, please contact us for more information. We anticipate starting this program in early 2012 but we can treat anyone individually prior to the start of the group program.
The success of treatment outcomes in our research will of course depend on the skills of the health care providers involved in this research project. Our physician team includes myself and Dr. Ming Lai. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Ming Lai as our expert on Chinese medicine. I have worked with Dr. Lai for over three years and have found him to be one of the most talented physicians I have ever worked with. I continue to be impressed with his ability to treat illnesses that no one else has been successful in treating. His understanding of where the root problem of illness exists is profound. I have seen him successfully treat cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, leg ulcers from circulation problems, hepatitis, emphysema, all types of female problems including infertility, and of course diabetes. He is here in the U.S. on a 3 year visa to work with me and do research on alternative medicine. I would like to help him establish a practice busy enough to support his staying here and becoming a U.S. citizen.
We are looking to you, our community, to help us help others with a “new kind of medicine”. We need a new approach in medicine that combines the best of eastern and western medicine and emphasizes noninvasive, nontoxic modalities. We need a “new medicine” that not only treats symptoms but finds the root of the problem and resolves it. I believe we can help to create a “new medicine” that is more effective and less expensive than our current system. We are hoping that you will help us spread the word about the work that we are doing to create a better health care system. If you have health issues that you feel are not being addressed well by western medicine alone, we would like to help. If you are a woman with female health problems, we would like you to join our research project. If you have type 2 diabetes and are not satisfied with the treatment you are receiving in western medicine, we would like you to join our research project. We are also looking for organizations or individuals who might be willing to sponsor patients who want to be involved in our research projects but are unable to pay for treatment. If you have ideas about where we might look for medical research funding or finding grant money we would also be grateful for your help. Please call 817-926-9642 if you or someone you know would like to be involved with either of these groundbreadking reseach projects.
I will keep you informed of our progress with this important project and as always I am grateful for your continuing love and support.
