Dr. Minghui Lai earned his M.D. Degree from Tianjin Medical University, China. After completing his training, he practiced as a medical doctor in Taiwan. Since his grandfather was a famous traditional Chinese medicine Doctor in Taiwan, he gained knowledge and clinical experience in Chinese medicine from his grandfather’s theory. He realized that some diseases could be treated more effectively with traditional Chinese medicine. He believes the combination of western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine will provide patients with an additional option and more thorough care.
Dr. Lai came to the U.S. and earned his Masters Degree of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine about 2 years ago and is a National Board certified Acupuncturist and Herbalist.
As an intern at Texas college of TCM, Dr. Lai treated over 400 cases. His responsibilities included the administration of acupuncture, moxabustion and cupping. He prescribed a wide variety of herb formulas and successfully treated various types of allergies, headaches, sciatic pain, depression, insomnia, IBS and numerous other ailments.
He has a strong background in western clinical medicine and believes that this knowledge helps him to better understand patient’s conditions from both perspectives. This background is especially valuable in helping to determine when there might be an interaction between herbs that he might prescribe and any conventional drugs a patient might already be taking. He diagnoses his patients using his knowledge of both western medicine and traditional Chinese treatments to provide a more complete treatment plan.
In addition, he is fluent in five languages which helps him communicate with patients from a wide variety of backgrounds. Dr. Lai’s personal philosophy has always been to treat the patient with the utmost compassion and understanding. He feels that one treats the patient first and the illness second.
